She had been born The Honorable Diana Frances Burke-Roche Spencer on July 1, 1961 at Sandringham, a 25, 000 acre estate of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Britain. The private royal estate located at Norfolk, England, is a favorite royal residence of three British Monarchs, Edward VII his son George V and his grandson George VI. Diana’s family lived in Park house in Sandringham until 1975. Diana’s parents came from Britain’s remarkable noble family, her father the 8th Earl of Althorp, Lord Johnny Spencer was a direct descendant of King Charles II through his two sons the Duke of Richmond and the Duke of Grafton, Diana’s mother Frances was the pretty blonde daughter of the 4th Baron Fermoy, Lord Edmund Burke-Roche whose mother was the American billionaire Frances Work.Diana had two older sisters Sarah and Jane and a younger brother Charles.

In 1967, when Diana was six, her parents separated. Soon the nasty custody battle started, the proceedings highlighted with Diana’s maternal grandmother, Lady Ruth Fermoy, the Lady-in-waiting of the Queen Mother at that time, defended Lord Spencer in court, eventually the custody ruled in favor of Diana’s father. In 1969, after the divorce became final Frances married Peter Shand Kydd, a wealthy commoner trader. Lord Spencer remarried in 1976 to the former Lady Dartmouth, Raine, daughter of romance writer Barbara Cartland. Diana had a difficult childhood, though she was born to a privilege, upper class noble family, her memories were mostly confined in the troubled marriage of her parents, her resentment toward the Spencer’s staff and the rejection she felt for not being a boy at birth, which she found out later, was the cause of her parents separation. Her father was yearning for a son to pass his noble title, when his wife, Frances, failed to produce a boy after two daughters, Lord Spencer increasingly became erratic until his outbursts became an emotional abuse to his wife, when the Spencer heir, Charles was born 3 years after the birth of Diana, Lord and Lady Spencer’s misunderstanding lead them to separate lives.

She attended an exclusive school for girls, first at Riddlesworth then moved on to West Heath boarding school. When she was 14, her grandfather, Lord Albert Spencer, the 7th Earl of Althorp, died, her father officially became the 8th Earl of Althorp and moved with his children to the Spencer family seat at Althorp estate in Northamptonshire, England. Diana and her sisters earned the courtesy title of a Lady and her brother Charles became Viscount Althorp. At the age of 16 Lady Diana dropped out from school and was sent by her father to Switzerland to study in a private finishing school for girls but after 3 months she went home. When she was 18 years old, she was permitted by her parents to buy an apartment called Coleherne Court in London and lived independently, first she earned her keeps by working as a baby sitter then as an assistant to a nearby kindergarten school.

When Lady Diana was 19, she met the 31 year old Prince of Wales, Charles, who was increasingly pressured by his family to settle down to ensure the continuation of the House of Windsor, but as an heir to the British throne, he couldn’t afford to just choose any woman, his uncle Lord Mountbatten already warned him that it could be a disaster to the future of the monarchy if he choose a commoner non aristocratic woman. While making an agonizing decision in marriage, Prince Charles began to notice the blossoming beauty of Lady Diana, they quietly known each other for they came from the same social class and Charles, at one point, briefly dated her older sister Sarah in 1977. when they met again in July 1980, the Prince of Wales noted how much she transformed into a beautiful young woman. When their private dates became known to the press, the innocent Diana felt terrified of the attention and pressure the media had given to her, which she found “unbearable”.

When the royal family knew of their love affair, they quickly approved Diana and pronounced as the most suitable candidate for the future Queen of England. By royal tradition, a future Queen Consort should be titled, with noble or royal lineage, socially inexperienced, a protestant without a past and most of all no career of her own. Ideally, Diana accomplished all these requirements. On February 1981, Buckingham Palace announced their engagement and Diana had to move to Clarence house with the Queen Mother and later on transferred to Buckingham Palace to familiarize with the royal routine. On July 29, 1981 the wedding of the 20th century took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

Diana took the title Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales after their wedding, she was the first English woman to marry an heir to the British throne in 300 years and the first non-princess to become the Princess of Wales, the title arrived in marriage and departed through divorce, within 15 years this condition proved true. As a child of a broken marriage, Diana took motherhood terribly, her eldest son Prince William, second in line to the British throne, was born on June 21, 1982, while Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne arrived in the royal world two years later on September 1984. She was a hands on mother, as what the British press reported, she personally nourished her sons, dashed to their rooms when she heard them crying. She fought with palace rules to enrol them to a day school to have an exposure with ordinary life and mingle with other people.

But all was not well with the fairytale couple, though they appeared solid and united in public, privately they did not get along, Charles’s adultery made Diana even more suicidal and lonely. But the pretensions did not last long, on December 1992 their formal separation was announced. When their divorce became final on August 1996, Diana was stripped with HRH style, but she remained the Princess of Wales and a member of the British royal family because she was the mother of the future King. On the following year, she started dating Dodi Al-fayed, son of Harrod’s billionaire owner Mohammad Al-fayed, because of his muslim heritage, their relationshiop was largely criticized by the media and the royal family, nevertheless Diana found happiness and protection she craved endlessly. But it seems she was not destined of a happy ending, on the morning of August 31, 1997, the black mercedez Benz she was riding with Dodi, slammed on the 13th pillar of Pont de alma tunnel in down town Paris, dodi’s driver was blinded by the motorcycle lights of the paparazzi who were aggresively pursued the Princess from Ritz hotel.

The announcement of her death punched a hole to everybody’s heart. Her compassion, her kindness and humility were known to the world, though her difficult life with in the British establishment magnified everyday, she struggled to create her own mission to help the downtrodden. More then a Princess, Diana understood how to live a fairytale life in the modern world, she did not confine herself in the isolated world of royalty, she reached out to those who badly needed help, that’s why everybody felt cheated in her sudden demise.

Now, eleven years after her death, people across the globe still haunted by her image, her glamour, her compassion and influenced, just how did this spectacular human being left a great footprint to the world?well, according to an article in Good HouseKeeping magazine, a Philippine issue published on July 2007, she was a mass of contradictions, she was beautiful, untouchable, royal, troubled. she lived in a unique world of glamour, wealth and fame, yet she seemed lonely and vulnerable. She was kind and giving and yet endlessly wanting, she was the fulfillment of a fairytale everybody dreamed of, but deeply troubled with in herself whose very family seemed turn against her, misinterpreting her insecurities and emotional struggle as merely symptoms of iresponsible behavior. But the most important thing, she left the world with a wondeful life and a great example, a true christian woman who valued others more than herself.

Her sons, Prince William and Harry, who were clearly devastated with her death, vowed to protect her memory. They continue working with charities whom their mother loved and declared to keep Diana’s legacy alive.
