Fiber consists of plant cellulose and other indigestible materials in foods, unlike other foods, fiber rich foods cannot be digested by the human body. The volume it adds in the stomach and intestine during digestion provides more time for absorption of nutrients. It helps promote bowel regularity and avoid constipation.

The importance of fibers in our diet stretches back to the basic knowledge that our body constantly needs “cleaning” and “sweeping” off toxic and other corrosive materials that accumulated during irresponsible eating habits, without the support of fibers in our diet these unwanted materials will trigger long time disease and other chronic illness later on including colon cancer. Fiber rich foods help lower blood cholesterol level because they are relatively low in fats and high in nutrients, it has also a high tendency in treating obesity and diabetes.

However, health professionals warned the public that too much fibers is not also good for the body because it can affect the absorption of some important minerals like iron, calcium and zinc, they recommended at least 25-30 grams per day instead.

Dietary fibers can be obtained from consuming oat bran, oatmeal, beans, peas, rice bran (brown rice has more fiber content compared to white processed rice), fruits and leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contained higher fibers when consumed unpeeled. Whole fruits have higher value of fibers compared to fruit juices. Fibers cannot be found in meat and other meat products.

Fiber rich foods are very important to person who wanted to eliminate extra pounds in their body, it has the capacity to remove fats and control calories and absorbed more nutrients essential in maintaining healthy diet. It is a crucial step to consider taking fiber first before putting your body in a strict exercise regimen.
